Salvia Good Hope

Salvia Good Hope

Why I grow it
I love this salvia for the way it sits in a border. It has an airy, loose growth habit with soft pink-salmon flower spikes that weave through the plants around it rather than forming a great solid lump.

It’s one of those plants that helps make a border feel abundant without making it feel crowded — and the bees approve too.

At a glance
Type: Flowering perennial
Variety: Good Hope
Growth: Upright and airy
Flowers: Soft pink-salmon flower spikes
Good for: Mixed borders, pollinators and informal planting
Inventory: 12 plants

In the garden
Plant it through a sunny mixed border where its flower stems can mingle with neighbouring perennials and grasses. I particularly like that slightly see-through quality — you get flowers and movement without visually blocking everything growing behind it.

Once established, it’s also reasonably tolerant of drier conditions.

Care
Full sun and well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing, then it can tolerate somewhat drier conditions. Cutting back spent flower stems will keep the plant tidy and encourage further growth.

What you’ll receive
One established Salvia ‘Good Hope’ plant.

Plants naturally vary in size and shape and may be supplied in reused nursery pots or growing bags — perfectly useful plastic doesn’t need replacing simply because it doesn’t match.
