Sunrise Bumble-Bee
Why I grow it
One of my all-time favourites. Sunrise Bumble Bee is a ridiculously pretty little tomato — golden yellow and orange fruit streaked with pink and red — but I grow it because it's also an absolute joy of a plant. Mine happily grow inside or out and romp their way up my garden arches alongside the cucumbers and luffas, producing masses of sweet little tomatoes as they go.
At a glance
Type: Cherry
Growth: Indeterminate
Open-pollinated: Yes
Fruit: Yellow-orange with pink/red marbling and stripes
Position: Full sun
Support: Give it something to climb
Good for: Garden beds, greenhouses and large containers
In the kitchen
Sweet, juicy and just the right size for eating straight from the vine — which is where quite a lot of mine disappear. They're beautiful in salads and lunchboxes, and particularly lovely mixed with red, yellow and dark cherry tomatoes where every fruit looks slightly different.
In the garden
This is a vigorous little climber rather than a polite compact tomato. As an indeterminate variety it continues growing and setting fruit through the season, so make use of that enthusiasm: mine happily climb garden arches amongst cucumbers and luffas. Give it good support and let it head upwards.
Care
Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil or a generous container. Water consistently as fruit develops and feed during flowering and fruiting. Tie or guide new growth onto its support as needed and pick regularly once the fruit begins ripening.
What you'll receive
One healthy, established tomato seedling grown here at A Garden Between. Plants naturally vary in size and shape and may be supplied in reused nursery pots or growing bags — perfectly useful plastic doesn't need replacing simply because it doesn't match.
