Kellog's Breakfast Tomato

Kellog's Breakfast Tomato

$7.00

Why I grow it
A beautiful heritage beefsteak that produces large golden-orange fruit. Kellogg's Breakfast is meaty and juicy with relatively few seeds and a rich tomato flavour — one to grow when you want both flavour and something rather glorious on the plate.

At a glance
Type: Beefsteak
Heritage: Yes
Growth: Indeterminate
Fruit: Large, golden-orange
Position: Full sun
Support: Sturdy support required

In the kitchen
Brilliant for thick slices, sandwiches and burgers, or eaten fresh with little more than salt. The fleshy fruit and beautiful colour also make it particularly good for salads and platters.

In the garden
Give it your warmest, sunniest position in fertile, well-drained soil. As an indeterminate tomato it will continue growing and producing through the season rather than setting one concentrated crop.

Care
Water consistently, especially as fruit develops, and feed regularly during flowering and fruiting. Tie new growth to sturdy support as it grows and protect from frost.

Worth knowing

Despite the name, Kellogg's Breakfast isn't a breakfast tomato developed by the cereal company. It's an American heirloom variety associated with Darrell Kellogg of Michigan.

What you'll receive
One healthy, established Kellogg's Breakfast tomato seedling grown here at A Garden Between. Plants naturally vary in size and shape and may be supplied in reused nursery pots or growing bags — perfectly useful plastic doesn't need replacing simply because it doesn't match.
