Amish Orange Sherbet Tomato
Why I chose it
I couldn't resist trying this one. Amish Orange Sherbet is an old heritage variety producing large, pale apricot-orange beefsteak tomatoes. The fruit is meaty and juicy with a sweet, mild flavour — exactly the sort of tomato that deserves a place in a summer garden. This is my first season growing it too, so we're trying this one together.
At a glance

Growth: Indeterminate
Fruit: Large, pale apricot-orange
Position: Full sun
Support: Sturdy support required
In the kitchen
A big, fleshy slicing tomato suited to fresh eating — thick slices for sandwiches and burgers, platters and salads, or simply sliced with a little salt. Its mild, sweet flavour makes this one particularly appealing if you prefer a less sharply acidic tomato. MeadowSweet
In the garden
A vigorous, tall-growing tomato that will continue producing through the season rather than setting one concentrated crop. Give it plenty of room and strong support: the individual fruits can become substantial. Chiantigardens
Care
Grow in your warmest, sunniest position in fertile, well-drained soil. Water consistently as the fruit develops and feed during flowering and fruiting. Tie new growth to sturdy support as it grows and protect from frost.
What you'll receive
One healthy, established tomato seedling grown here at A Garden Between. Plants naturally vary in size and shape and may be supplied in reused nursery pots or growing bags — perfectly useful plastic doesn't need replacing simply because it doesn't match.
