White Strawberry

Why I grow it
I was given this strawberry by a food-forest grower and have propagated it from there. I don't know the original cultivar, so I'm simply calling it what I know it as: White Strawberry.

I grow it primarily as edible groundcover in my food forest. It spreads by runners, fills gaps beneath and around larger plants, helps cover otherwise bare soil — and produces strawberries while it's at it. That's my sort of multitasking plant.

In the garden
This is where I find it particularly useful. I grow it through the ground layer of my food forest rather than keeping it in a dedicated strawberry bed. It spreads by runners and gradually forms a low-growing cover beneath taller edible plants.

Give it room to wander. If you want a strawberry that stays obediently in the exact spot you planted it, this may not be the one. If you want groundcover you can eat, much more interesting.

Care
Sun to part shade. Grow in fertile, free-draining soil and keep reasonably well watered while establishing and when fruiting. Mulching around the plants helps retain moisture and keeps developing fruit away from bare soil.

What you’ll receive
