Matt's Wild Cherry Tomato
Why I grow it
Such a ridiculously cute little tomato. Matt's Wild Cherry produces masses of tiny red fruit that are barely bigger than blueberries, but somehow manage to pack in a proper tomato flavour. I love having little tomatoes like this in the garden — partly because they're useful, but mostly because it's almost impossible to walk past the plant without eating a handful.

In the kitchen
These are made for grazing straight from the plant. They're also gorgeous scattered whole through salads, tucked into lunchboxes or mixed with larger cherry tomatoes for different sizes and colours. The flavour develops from slightly tart towards sweeter as the fruit fully ripens. Kings Seeds NZ
In the garden
Matt's Wild Cherry has an interesting history, tracing back to seed brought from Hidalgo, Mexico, where related tomatoes grow wild. Don't let the tiny fruit fool you: the plant itself is vigorous and indeterminate and will keep growing and producing through the season. Johnny's Selected Seeds
Care
Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Water consistently and feed during flowering and fruiting. Give the sprawling growth good support and pick regularly as the tiny fruits ripen.
What you'll receive
One healthy, established tomato seedling grown here at A Garden Between. Plants naturally vary in size and shape and may be supplied in reused nursery pots or growing bags — perfectly useful plastic doesn't need replacing simply because it doesn't match.
